From the loss of Davey Jones to Hunger Games ticket sales skyrocketing, the Internets are abuzz with activity.

One of this week’s top stories was the death of beloved Monkeys man, Davey Jones. I remember watching him on Scooby Doo with my daughter not too long ago and giggling with her over the silliness; I would not have imagined that his death would come only a few months later. He was only 66 years old, and died of a heart attack that was completely unexpected. Fans may be comforted knowing that Jones spent the last few days of his life happily with his wife and family.

In some fun news this week, the pre-order ticket sales for The Hunger Games adaptation skyrocketed. I heard that the first day of sales was bigger than Twilight’s, and that they are only continuing in popularity. Across the country sales of various merchandise—from Walgreens stores to Hot Topics—from the movie also went on sale, and it looks as if this series will surely surpass the other series previously mentioned. In other Hunger Games news, a new clip—not another trailer but an actual clip from the movie!—was released this week. In it, Katniss shows off her wicked mad archery skills to a group of Capitol game makers and—well, if you’ve read the book, you know what happens! It’s one of my absolute favorite scenes.

Then there was this horrible photo of a truckload of dead wolves going around, featuring the two hunters who murdered them in the name of “conservation.” To echo the sentiments of the poster, this killing has got to stop. A friend of mine is talking about raising money for Defenders of Wildlife to stop this from happening and I am ready to jump in and do the same.

Storms wreaked havoc across the Midwest again, just as they seem to do every year around this time. We were close to the wreckage but miles far away enough to avoid the tornado itself. I have family members who have family members impacted by the storm and are helping out; so far over 30 people have been found dead, with another 300 wounded. I remember tornadoes and violent storms hitting our area since I was a child, but it seems like in the past few years they have been more deadly than ever. Please keep these families in your thoughts and send any aid you can, if you can. To find out more about the storms and how you can contribute, please click here.
